The Coalition for Life is a community based Christian pro-life organization made up of over 60 churches and thousands of individuals who are working to end abortion in the Brazos Valley, peacefully and prayerfully.
Mission:
End abortion in the Brazos Valley…peacefully and prayerfully.
History:
In 1998, the local Planned Parenthood affiliate announced they would build a 1.2 million dollar abortion facility in Bryan. In response to this news a young woman who worked at a local church, Lauren Gulde, called a community wide meeting to discuss organizing opposition to Planned Parenthood. From that initial meeting the Coalition for Life was formed to lovingly offer women better choices.
At the time, Planned Parenthood stated that community opposition would go away after only a few months, but 9 years later the Coalition for Life has become one of the most effective grassroots pro-life organizations in the United States. City officials report that the Planned Parenthood on East 29th Street in Bryan is the most protested abortion clinic in America. In 2003, Planned Parenthood Federation of America brought in then president, Gloria Feldt to a local Planned Parenthood fundraiser in Bryan/College Station. With over 300 pro-lifers outside the abortion fundraiser praying and under 100 attendees inside the event, Mrs. Feldt named Bryan/College Station, “The most anti-choice place in the country”. Of course, the “choice” she was referring to was abortion.
Additionally, ABC’s Nightline reported on the Anniversary of Roe v. Wade, that the efforts of the Coalition for Life were shaping the abortion debate in America. From 2005 to the present day the Coalition for Life has put Planned Parenthood leaders on the defensive through the most effective local media campaign ever targeted at a Planned Parenthood.
Over the years the Coalition for Life has been asked by numerous local and national organizations to help fight Planned Parenthood. In 2007, the Coalition for Life was offered the opportunity to produce a television show about our local efforts for the largest Christian media outlet in the world, Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN). This show will take the pro-life efforts and successes in Bryan/College Station and put them into 127 million homes in 140 countries around the world.
By relying on prayer, peaceful activism, education, and better alternatives, the Coalition for Life has decreased local abortion numbers and driven down business for the local Planned Parenthood. Despite being a small organization that opposes a Goliath sized abortion operation, God has always provided the leaders, volunteers, and donors that make this crucial work successful. Our goal is to pray, trust God, and actively work until abortion is ended in the Brazos Valley…peacefully and prayerfully.
